Let's Talk About Skincare

Hey, loves! Today, I decided to address a topic that I receive questions on daily. What could that be?

S K I N C A R E 

Specifically, my personal skincare regime and links to find the products I use.

#1. IT'S ALL ABOUT FOOD

I will say that I believe the majority of my complexion is the result of my diet. I don't consume processed foods, refined sugars, refined oils, meat, refined dairy (only the occasional ghee), or refined grains.

Instead, I nourish my body with an abundance of organic plants, legumes, the occasional farm-fresh egg, healthy fats, and am beginning to experiment with marine collagen for gut and joint health (a suggestion by a naturopath who saw me struggling with specific gut and joint issues following workouts). #2. KEEP CLEANSING SIMPLE (THINK: 1 PRODUCT)

As far as topical products go, I'm kind of a minimalist. Several studies have shown the benefits of solely cleansing your face with water! That would be a huge blow to the cosmetic industry, however, so many people don't even give it a shot.

Personally, I prefer cleansing my face with either water or biodegradable baby wipes. Baby wipes are fairly magical in the sense that they take off makeup with ease and without any scrubbing! If I'm without baby wipes, I usually just use coconut oil to remove my makeup. This can be relatively annoying in my opinion (oil melting and dripping in your eyes), but it's extremely effective without any waste! 

#3. MAKE YOUR OWN FOUNDATION!

That's right! Make your own foundation. I would recommend experimenting with the following ingredients until you find a shade that matches, but just know this isn't for matte coverage. I use my homemade (and edible) foundation as more of a translucent power than a blemish concealer.

For my personal skin tone, I use:

  • 3 tbsp arrowroot powder
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

#4. IF YOU HAVE TO USE CONCEALER, KEEP IT NATURAL

We all get zits. Even if you're doing everything right, hormones happen! I recommend sticking with natural concealers, my favorites being Physician's Formula and Eco Bella.

#5. USE COCONUT OIL INSTEAD OF HIGHLIGHTER

We all use highlighter to simulate a dewy, oily, glowy look -- correct? Why not actually have a natural dewy look with something you can get from your kitchen? That's right, I use coconut oil as my highlighter, applying *lightly* on my cheekbones, chin, and nose. If you're worried if this will make you breakout, don't worry. Coconut oil has antifungal properties and has been proven to help with dry and excessively oily skin.
